Citizen Friday
Share. Repair. Get some fresh air
What it is
An invitation to do something with other people instead of on your own. There are three ways to join in, and you can do one, two or all three.
Share instead of scrolling.
Bring something to share, whether it’s a meal, a skill or a story, and see who turns up.
Repair.
Mend what needs mending: a broken zip, a stretch of river bank, a friendship, yourself.
Get outside instead of getting a parcel.
Walk, plant, tidy, sit. Spend some time in the fresh air, with company.
The point isn’t to do it perfectly. The point is to do something together.
How to join in – There are no rules and it’s free.
Find your others
Friends, neighbours, colleagues, strangers, a club, your street. Two is enough.
Pick something to do
Share, repair, or get outside.
Pick a place
A kitchen table, a park, a village hall, a shed.
Put it on the map
Do the thing.
Use the hashtag
Share a photo or video with #CitizenFriday. It helps us see each other, all over the world.
Wish someone a happy Citizen Friday
A neighbour, a colleague, a stranger. It’s a small thing, and it matters more than it sounds.
Why?
Why not?
We tend to ask questions around here, rather than lead with answers. Life might be too busy. You might feel disconnected. You might be worried about your children’s futures. You might believe we should look after things in our community. You might feel like you have no say in the world around you.
We can’t fully explain why people are drawn to sharing, repairing and fresh airing on a Friday. We just know they are, because we can see each other.
So we’re doing what we usually do: crowdsourcing the reasons. Tell us why you do Citizen Friday, and over time we’ll learn why so many of us do. That will help others find their way in.
The map
Pins are already going in, from Berkshire to Bangalore, Norwich to New Zealand: shared meals, silent discos, parties, print workshops, a walk together, office bake off….
Zoom in to find one near you, or add your own*.
*No experience, budget, plan or permission needed. Doing something on a Friday that’s open to others? Add it, even if it’s tiny. We only ask for a name, a rough location and a way for people to reach you. There’s no need to give your address.

Everything you need is here
This is the Citizen Friday Commons: everything you need to take a first step, and a place to add what you learn. Today that’s posters, editable templates and a media pack. One day it’ll be a place to load up your stories, images and news articles, how-tos and guides. Take what’s useful, and add what you’ve learned.
Make Citizen Friday yours
Everything we make is free to use, however you see fit. Print it, change it, translate it. Chalk our smiley faces on the pavement, draw them in a classroom, give them your own characters. You don’t need to ask, but we’d love to see what you make.
Support Citizen Friday
Help us build it
Citizen Friday is free to join, and it will stay that way. But what we can see is bigger than a hashtag and a map: a commons full of tools and stories, a network of people finding each other, and a bumper day in November that the world notices. That takes work, and work takes money.
Your support pays for the mapping, organising, design and graphics, printing, press relations, and building the commons. Every pound makes it easier for the next person to take a first step.
All funding is open and visible on our Open Collective page, so you can see where every pound goes. Give once, give monthly, or tell someone who might.
